Rev. Jerry E. Traister and wife, Marie (Office Help) Jerry learned of CBM while a student at Davis Bible College, then known as Practical Bible Training School in Binghamton, New York. He served as the South Central Pennsylvania Director of CBM at Camp Joy-El and saw the Released Time Bible Program grow from 70 students attending weekly to over 2500 students attending. In 1971 he married the former Marie Little of Gray, Tennessee. Jerry would say he may be the National Director, but Marie has seniority over him. She memorized her 300 verses in the public school, under the CBM program, and attended the CBM camp, Camp Ta-Pa-Win-Go, as a child and stayed with the program through her teen years. Jerry and Marie are parents of two married daughters and the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren. Marie has been supportive of Jerry in his various endeavors. Jerry had the privilege of serving as the director when Camp Joy-El was built in 1972. After laboring 17 years in Pennsylvania he accepted the call to serve as the National Director of CBM and saw the CBM National Office move from Lakeland, Florida, to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He then served as the Associate Pastor at the Open Door Church in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and as Director of Development for the Cumberland Valley Christian School. He returned to CBM in 2000 and had the joy of seeing the Tuckaleechee Retreat Center develop during the last seven years. Jerry and Marie would say it has been a thrill to see the Lord provide for them personally and for the ministry of Children's Bible Ministries. Administrative Assistant:
Cathy Garber Cathy first learned of CBM through her Christian Ed teacher at Trinity Bible College, Dunedin, Florida. Dr. Earl Collins arranged for his class to tour CBM's Camp Gilead in Polk City, Florida. Later that week a friend challenged Cathy to give the Lord one summer as a counselor at a Christian camp and watch God provide the needed funds to return to school in the fall. After completing the counselor application she soon found herself at Camp Gilead for the next two summers. It was there that Cathy knelt and dedicated her life to serve the Lord full-time work. On April 1, 1976 she began full-time with CBM. God has been faithful through the years in supplying prayer supporters and daily financial needs through churches and individuals. God is good! She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and has made her home in Townsend for 20 years. She has one 19 year old son, Jeremy, who is a personal trainer at a local fitness center. She is also care giver to four sweet cats and one lively dachshund dog. E-Mail: sue@childrensbibleministries.net Maintenance and Office Help: Jim and Peggy Steele
Jim and Peggy met at Bryan College in Dayton, TN and were married on June 30, 1973. They graduated from Bryan College the summer of 1974. Jim graduated with a Bible degree and Peggy with a Christian Education degree. After graduation they lived in the Dayton area until the summer of 1983. In 1982 they believed God was calling them into full-time Christian service. They joined the staff of Miracle Mountain Ranch in Spring Creek, PA in 1983 beginning a stretch of 24 years in Christian camping. 1992 God called them back to Tennessee to join the staff of Cedine Ministries in Spring City. They served the Lord there until December of 2006 at which time God brought them to CBM. Through the years God has blessed the Steeles with 6 children. Lydia, 16, is the only child still at home. Innkeeper:
Ruth White
Ruth had been living in Orlando, Florida and praying for a place to live that was near her adult children in Tennessee. Her friend, Wayne Knauss, who serves as Tuckaleechee's Steering Committee Chairman, knew that Ruth was looking for a new home and job. When he heard that Tuckaleechee was in need of an Innkeeper, he called Ruth. She met with Director, Jerry Traister, and after he offered her the job, she moved to Townsend to start work in January 2004. This was the culmination of a God directed two year journey to relocate. Ruth is a graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She has two children. Her son, Brian Guignard, lives in Knoxville. Her daughter, Jennifer Pitts, lives in Nashville with her husband, Glenn. |
